Top heads want all schools to ban mobile phones.
Think tank Onward have organised a letter which has been signed by 30 school executives and heads who run some of the best performing schools in England.
They have challenged other schools to ban mobile phones by the argument that phones are corrosive to calm and structured learning environments. And that maintaining a firm policy against their use is the best way for schools to maintain order. Because of the disruption that mobile phones can cause.
It is proposed by the heads that it is applied to all pupils in Year 11 those aged 15 and 16 and below. Phones could be fetched into school as long as they are switched off and kept in bags or lockers. And a pupil caught using a phone on site would be sanctioned in line with the school’s disciplinary policy.
Education secretary Damien Hinds backed a ban but insisted that headteachers must decide their own policies. A poll of 10,000 people who were commissioned by Onward revealed that two-thirds backed a school phone ban. With only one in four opposing a ban. Banning mobile phones in schools could see pupils concentration, behaviour and attainment dramatically improved according to mounting evidence. More than 120 schools have backed a pledge to ban mobile phones.
Do you agree that mobile phones should be banned in all schools?
