Doing crosswords could knock 10 years of your brain age.

Researchers have found in the largest and most detailed joint study. That doing crosswords and sudoku every day may help to keep your brain a decade younger in middle age.

The over 50’s undertook a battery of cognitive tests over a week. It was found that those participants who enjoyed doing word puzzles every day performed as well as people 10 years younger. The participants who did number puzzles were found to have thinking skills of those eight years younger.

The research suggests that puzzles may ward off declining memory in older age, which could prevent or delay dementia. The theory is that the brain is a muscle like any other in the body and if we continue to use it its capacity and adaptability will improve.
