Lucy’s Law to ban puppy farms is set to be confirmed.

Lucy’s law to ban puppy farms is set to be confirmed.

Lucy’s Law is named after a Cavalier King Charles spaniel that was poorly treated on a puppy farm and subsequently died. The new law is set to be confirmed by Westminster and will ban the sale of puppies and kittens by third parties.

The law will make sure that anyone who buys or adopts a dog under six months old has to deal directly with the breeder. Or an animal rehoming centre, and not a pet shop or commercial breeder.

The new rules are being put before parliament on Monday and need a debate in both houses to pass into law. The law would require that animals are with their mother and sold from their place of birth. It would require that animals are born and reared in a safe environment

The new law would be named after a Cavalier King Charles spaniel called Lucy she died in 2016 after being treated badly on a puppy farm.

April 6th, 2020 is when the ban is scheduled to come into force according to the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs.
