One in three doctors are treating three times the safe limit of patients.
On average the family doctor in a day has 41 patient contacts. Which include consultations and phone calls. But as many as one in ten has more than 60, and one GP said on occasions she has more than 100.
Pulse magazine who carried out the survey found that the safe number of patients was 30. Serious mistakes risked being made if doctors see more than this number.
In 2015 the government said it would hire 5,000 GP’s by 2020 but have admitted since that the goal is unreachable.
Experts warn that GP’s who have quit or retired are not being replaced. On average doctors work an 11 hour day, and the survey warned that doctors are becoming unwell due to the long hours worked.
