Shooting stars across the sky.

Stargazers are in for a treat this weekend with the Lyrid meteor shower is going to light up the night sky.

It will be a spectacular show of shooting stars streaking across the sky.

The display of shooting stars will reach its peak in the UK early on Tuesday morning.

The rate of shooting stars according to astronomers is about 18 meteors per hour, but can see rare outbursts of up to 100 an hour.

The meteor shower reaches its peak between April 22nd and 23rd with the early hours of the 23rd the best time to see the shower.

The observatory advice is for people to lay on the ground for the best view, away from any street lights
