Officials investigate crash that killed retired Caistor man.

Crash investigators continue to examine vehicles involved in a fatal collision on the A46.

The crash, which happened on Tuesday at around 3pm, involved three Mercedes. One was overturned.

Caistor bypass was closed southbound from Whitegate Hill to Nettleton Road and motorists were advised to stay away.

Emergency service crews from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Lincolnshire Police were at the scene-along with the Derbyshire and Leicester Air Ambulance which landed at nearby Caistor C of E and Methodist Primary School.

An ambulance also left the scene under police escort.

An 84-year-old man died when his blue Mercedes saloon was in a head-on collision with a brand new Mercedes coupe which still had trade plates.

It is thought the blue car was heading southbound on the A46 when it collided with the other Mercedes which was heading north towards Grimsby.

It has not yet been revealed where the new Mercedes coupe was heading with its trade plates.

Suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the new Mercedes is understood to be in his 20s. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital. He has since been discharged from hospital and is due to be questioned by crash investigators.
