Fire Brigade warning on poor parking.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has sent a warning about poor parking.

Poor parking can cost them vital seconds when responding to a 999 call.Hundreds of posters and flyers have been given to fire crews and Public Safety staff. So that they can get the message out to those people who park in a way to block a fire engine en route to an emergency.

On Street parking can be a struggle.

For some people trying to get an on street parking space outside their home can be a struggle. But most of the illegal parking tends to happen on the school run in the morning or evening.

Dumping the car illegally to save a five minute walk is not the way.

It may seem the only option to dump the car on double yellow lines,or across driveways and on verges. But it could impact on a fire engine’s access down a narrow street.Fire crews need a little more space to get between parked cars. Also a wider arc when turning in and out of side streets.

Each engine will carry reminder flyers.

They will give out these flyers when they have been delayed getting to an incident. The leaflets contain the following advice.

Leave extra room near tight corners.

Do not park on double yellow lines.

Park as close to the kerb as possible.

Fold in your wing mirrors if you can.

Do not block any driveways or gateways.

Check there is enough room for a fire engine to pass.
