Seven-year-old claims first Scunthorpe Pool League victory
Seven-year-old Henri Scott earned his first victory in the latest round of fixtures in the Scunthorpe Pool League this week.
Mulligans Trojans opened up a six-point gap at the top of Division One, as they overcame a tricky away tie at club mates Majestic Sausage Dogs with a 9-4 win.
That meant Showman’s Fu Cue lost ground in the title race after they tasted defeat for just the second time this season away at Chaos.
Showman’s Army kept themselves in the title-race picture with a 9-4 success at Cobras, while Broughton Club Pirates picked up the top division’s result of the day with a convincing 11-2 away victory at Showman’s Improvers.
Beacon’s 8-4 win against Redbourne Mids ensured they’re reasonably safe from the relegation zone.
Just 12 points separate the top seven sides in Division Two. The key game at the top took place at Winterton Jubilee, as the league leaders extended their lead to four points with a deciding frame victory over third-placed Messingham Crown.
RAOB moved up to second following their 10-3 win at Black Beauty. Beacon Rat Outcasts were in irresistible form this week, as they punished Brumby Hall A 11-2, putting the Showman’s side in a position to push for a late promotion place.
Cocked Hat B’s 9-4 away victory at winless Brumby Hall Stars means they remain in the promotion race, while Mill Road’s 6-6 draw at eighth-placed Fedoras Z also keeps the Black Cats in with a shout.
All five results in Division Three were closely contested, which keeps the league table in a similar position as before a ball was played this week. Ashby Crown A scored the biggest result of the week, coming away with a 9-4 win at Cocked Hat A to move up into pole position.
Pig and Whistle moved down into second following their 6-6 draw with promotion-chasing Old Farmhouse, with Mulligans ST’s 8-5 derby victory over clubmates Tight Rack keeping them within reach of the automatic promotion places.
Bottesford Town Club could only manage a 6-6 draw at Glenny’s Poachers to remain in fourth spot, while Showman’s Spartans’ 7-5 win at home to Harry’s Bar keeps them in the promotion mix.
RHH Hospital Club came out on top against Redbourne NnC, as their convincing 11-2 away win moves them further clear of the drop zone.
Showman’s Bandits’ 6-6 draw at Chancel was enough to keep them at the top of Division Four. The remaining promotion place appears to be a two-way battle between Chancel Flyers and Mill Road Dynamite, as they shared a 6-6 draw to remain in second and third.
At the bottom, Redbourne Madness scored a decent 9-4 win at Broughton WMCA to move them level with the hosts in eighth.
Liberal scored a fine 9-3 win at home to Mulligans Misfits, providing them with a real shout of an immediate return back to Division Three.
Harry’s Bar Harriers’ latest 8-4 win over third-placed Showman’s Hornets maintained an impressive 11-point gap at the top of Division Five, while Beckwood Sex Panthers’ 10-2 win at home to Beacon Sailors kept the home side in second spot.
It was unlucky 13 for Mulligans Runaways, as they finally suffered a defeat at the hands of Beacon B, with the side in 10th winning 8-5.
Schnapps A stayed on course for the other promotion place after they won 9-4 away at Foxhills Club.
The title picture in Division Seven is really heating up, as just six points separate the top five teams. In pole position comes Lord Roberts, who earned an 8-4 victory over Schnapps Retro A.
Bottesford Town B lost their place at the top on the back of their 9-4 to fellow title hopefuls Redbourne Z, with seven-year-old Henri Scott (pictured) claiming his first-ever league frame this week.
Schnapps Retro B stayed in the race following their 9-4 success at Scunthorpe Bowl to keep them within just five points of the top.
Clubmates Reloaded also remained on course for a promotion spot, as they dispatched Grosvenor 8-4 to stay fifth.
Youth side Mulligans Spurs remain sixth after they narrowly fell short against Priory, losing 8-5. But the vastly improved under-18s team could really challenge for honours next season if they keep up their momentum.
Royal Hotel came close to breaking into the top half of the table for the first time, as they won 10-3 at Mulligans Warriors.
In the team KO the previous week, Division One league leaders Mulligans Trojans were shown the exit at Showman’s Chaos, with the home side earning an excellent 5-4 home victory.
The big surprise of the round came at Black Beauty, as the fifth-division B side turned the league upside down with an incredible 5-4 win over first-division outfit Showman’s Improvers.
