Cleethorpes Masterplan approved!

The proposed Cleethorpes Masterplan has been approved following a cabinet meeting last night, Wednesday 16th March.

The plans have been hailed as “one of the biggest set of plans in this area in living memory.”

It is hoped that it will transform the resort into a major year-round destination for holidays and staycations, creating a number of jobs and providing the area with a vital financial boost.

Four main areas of focus have been identified for renovation, including the North Prom, the Central Prom and Pier Gardens, Cleethorpes Town Centre and the South Beach.

The Cleethorpes Masterplan has been hailed as one of the most ambitious plans to bring ‘immense’ opportunities to make the resort the premier destination on the Lincolnshire coast.

North East Lincolnshire Council cabinet has approved the ambition to make the town a year-round destination for staycations. The ‘vibrant’ plan could direct investment in Cleethorpes for the next 30 years, creating jobs.

The plans were produced by designer Wayne Hemmingway MBE and will be used to launch bids for Levelling Up funding.

Councillor Philip Jackson, said: “This is a really good Masterplan that sets out the direction of travel for Cleethorpes with some key projects.

“Wayne and his team brought their experience to us with a lot of ideas from other parts of the country that have worked very well.

“That is part of the reason why everyone has been so positive about it, the plan includes practical proposals that will help us to take the resort forward and convert it into the staycation resort we want, bringing investment, jobs and wealth into the area.

“The next stage is to make sure we deliver on the plan.”

He said the proposal provided a ‘framework’ for Cleethorpes’ future.

Wayne Hemingway of HemingwayDesign added: “On behalf of the design team, I would like, in true Oscars style, to thank everyone for helping to get the Cleethorpes Vision and Masterplan to this stage so quickly.

“From the thousands of residents, the business community and visitors who played a pivotal role in coming up with ideas, to the elected members to the North East Lincolnshire Council team, this really has been a collective effort.

“The ideas are sensible, clear and deliverable and that is what we believe should put Cleethorpes in a decent position to attract funding.”
