Victorian heritage works continue in Cleethorpes

No. 41 Alexandra Road is the latest property to undergo heritage restoration works as part of an ongoing project in Cleethorpes.

Works are set to begin today following the receipt of Townscape Heritage funding.

According to reports, the building is one of the oldest properties along the road, dating back to around 1900.

It is hoped that the conservation and restoration work will help return the Grade II listed building to its former glory and preserve the areas Victorian heritage.

As part of the works, the shop front will be replaced with one reflecting the original Victorian design.

The single cast-iron balcony will be removed recoated.

Additionally, the dormer window will be reinstated.

The bay windows will be replaced, and the rainwater channels will be replaced.

This follows a number of other heritage restoration works in the area.

In December last year, a section of the balconies at the southern end of Alexandra Road in Cleethorpes was removed for conservation by a specialist team.

It’s expected that those balconies will be returned to the properties in the next few months.

Work has already been undertaken to restore the bay windows on No 21 and 22 Alexandra Road, and the RAF Association building at No 5 Alexandra Road was completed in 2021.

Councillor Callum Procter, the Cabinet member for Heritage at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is a fantastic project, and I’m pleased that it’s starting to take shape with another project coming on stream.

“People in Cleethorpes love the Victorian balconies, and we need to make sure our heritage is preserved for the future.”
