Wearne departs Grimsby Town to join Torquay United on loan
Grimsby Town have confirmed midfielder Stephen Wearne has joined Torquay United on a one-month loan deal.
The attacking midfielder, who joined the Mariners from Sunderland in the summer, has so far made 10 appearances for the club – most of which have come off the bench – and scored in the 4-0 win against Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup.
The 21-year-old last featured for Town in the Papa John’s Trophy game against Mansfield Town in September.
The move will see him link back up with Gary Johnson at Torquay United after spending three months with the National League outfit last season, in which time he scored three goals in 14 appearances.
Speaking of Wearne’s short-term switch, Paul Hurst said: “We have agreed to let Stephen go to Torquay for a month to get some valuable game time.
“We will monitor his performances closely and hope he can have a productive spell which will benefit him and ourselves.”
The on-loan midfielder will be available for the Gulls’ game at Aldershot Town this evening.
