Division One remains tight at the top following latest pool league results
The Division One title race is showing no signs of letting up, with two teams neck and neck as the Scunthorpe Pool League heads into the final two weeks of the season.
Showmans Army remain a point clear at the top, following a comfortable 10-3 win over fourth-placed Showmans Chaos.
In second spot, Mulligans Trojans picked up the result of the day, beating Showsmans Fu Cue 10-3 away from home to keep their momentum going.
Showmans Cobras moved eight points clear of the relegation zone in their bid for survival after their 8-5 win at bottom of the table Back In Black Beauty.
But Brumby Hall couldn’t help their relegation struggles this week, as they lost 10-3 to Beacon, while Broughton Club Pirates maintained their position in fifth place with a 6-6 draw at home to Redbourne Mods.
Division Two is also looking likely to head down to a final-day decider for the title.
The situation remains the same as last week, with Mulligans Majestic Sausage Dogs a point clear at the top after a very late finish at Mill Road. As the clock hit 11:30 pm in Ashby, the rugby supremo Woody came to the rescue again to salvage a 9-4 win for the Sausage Dogs.
A similar scoreline materialised across the town, as Showmans Improvers also bagged nine frames against RAOB to remain second, with Winterton Jubilee recording an emphatic 10-2 home victory against ninth-placed Ashby Crown to cement their position in third.
Elsewhere, Cocked Hat suffered a rare home defeat, losing 9-4 to Messingham Crown, while Black Beauty came away from Glenny’s Poachers with a 6-6 draw, which just might be enough to keep the home side safe in Division Two for another season.
There were mixed fortunes for Showmans Rat Outcasts in Division 3 this week, as they suffered a surprise defeat at home to fifth-placed Cocked Hat.
On a brighter note, they are just six frames away from mathematically sealing the league title, which will be welcome redemption for their last season after the team’s KO plate final disappointments.
Second spot appears to be a two-way battle between Fedoras and Old Farmhouse as both sides picked up eight points with Fedoras winning 8-4 at home to Mulligans Tight Rack and Old Farmhouse claiming an 8-5 victory at Harry’s Bar.
Chancel Flyers produced a strong away performance at Pig & Whistle, winning 9-4 to give their survival chances a glimmer of hope.
Liberal Club, however, are destined for life in Division Four next season, although they put up a good fight away at Showmans Spartans this week, narrowly losing 7-5.
The title race will also be decided on the final day, as both Mulligans ST and Bottesford Town share the top spot with 125 points. Both teams managed superb away wins, with Bottesford Town boasting an impressive 11-2 scoreline at Redbourne NnC and Mulligans ST winning 12-1 at Jolly Sailor.
Schnapps A remain in third place following their 1oth league win of the season, with a 7-5 result against RRH Club. Redbourne Madness remain fourth but suffered a rare 9-3 defeat away at Chancel, while Broughton WMCA won 10-3 away at relegated Mulligans Youth.
The top of Division Five also remains in a similar position this week. Showmans Young Ones stay top with an 11-point cushion, following their 13th win of the season at home to Roxy Rack Em.
Mill Road Dynamite couldn’t capitalise on that scoreline, though, as they could only manage a 6-6 draw with Beckwood Bombers.
Showmans Hornets remain third after their 9-4 away at Talbot, while Ashby Crowns’s 8-4 win at home to Butchers Of Winterton has given the hosts a great chance of surviving relegation. Black Beauty won the battle of the mid-table sides against Mill Road B 7-5.
Harry’s Bar Harriers scored a comprehensive 10-3 win away at Beacon to all but secure the Division Six title and Beckwood Sex Panthers have effectively sealed the runners-up spot following their 8-4 victory at home to Beacon Rats.
Foxhills Bulldogs won the derby against Foxhills Club 8-4 to remain third, with bottom side Scunthorpe Bowl picking up a rare 7-5 win at home to fellow strugglers Brumby Hall B. Schnapps Elite maintained their mid-table position in fifth following their 8-4 success over Mill Road DM.
Keadby Club are on course to win the Division Seven league title in their debut season, as they came away from Schnapps Reloaded with a convincing 10-3 win.
Mulligans Unique remain in the hunt in second place following their 9-3 victory over Grosvenor but they will have to rely on results going their way over the next two weeks to secure the top spot.
Mulligans Spurs earned a decent 6-6 draw at Bottesford Town Club and could break out from ninth spot if their remaining two games go to plan.
Lord Roberts got a solid win at home to Schnapps Retro B to stay third, while Schnapps Retro A earned their fourth win of the season at Priory with an 8-5 victory.
