Inside the exciting restoration of 33 Alexandra Road

Inside the restoration of 33 Alexandra Road following the newest business to open in the property.

Number 33 Alexandra Road is at the heart of a block of six properties (30-35 Alexandra Road) between Albert Street and Dolphin Street.

Previously, the property has enjoyed an array a different businesses operating from inside, including oyster purveyors in the eary 20th century, a Newman’s jewellers in the 1960s and now, a Thai Massage and Spa, which opened last week.

Throughout the years, the property was enveloped in numerous traditional, visual aesthetics and architectural designs.

Now, thanks to National Lottery Heritage Funding, and “significant” private investment, the store-front and above property has undergone work to retain its historical detailing.

According to the North East Lincolnshire Council, 33 Alexandra Road had its shop front “repainted in heritage colours and new doors and fanlights to the entranceways”

“For the properties above, new timber sash windows and repairs to the brick head and keystones have been installed, false bay window front and a new heritage approved bay window top section have been completed and new heritage approved French doors will lead out onto the balcony”, they added.

“Cast iron guttering and downpipes have replaced more modern PVC fixtures”

An eye-catching ruby red theme has covered the face of the property. The colour was identified by paint analysis conducted by the University of Lincoln last year.

Cllr Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said:

“The heritage and architectural details have been gathered for this project from early photographs and postcards as well as specific studies into the history of the road. I’d like to thank everyone for getting behind this project and producing such a stunning transformation.”

The work to the building was carried out across a six-month period.
