People’s Park Floral Hall leased to support group for young people
The Floral Hall at People’s Park has been leased to a support group.
Gravity Red Inspires, a support service for young people, will be able to continue their amazing work out of the Floral Hall, located in People’s Park.
The group offers befriending and vital family support.
Three months ago, North East Lincolnshire Council leased out the building to the group. Peter Fuller, from Gravity Red Inspires, said the feedback they have received was “very positive”
The support service was originally founded in 2013 after noticing the limited opportunities for families who cared for a child with learning difficulties.
Gravity Red Inspires’ befriending service provides support to allow young people to enjoy independence, and to be able to access a range of activities.
Befrienders meet each week to enjoy life to the fullest. Regular activities have included cinema visits, playing video games, eating out, playing and watching sports, arts and crafts, and much more!
The group is currently scheduling group sessions.
“Young people with additional needs will be able to engage in therapeutic activity in a safe environment. They will also be able to grow their own fruit and veg, as well as flowers arranging,” said Peter from Gravity Red Inspires.
“This provides somewhere they can visit with their family and showcase what they have been doing each week. They will also be able to supply family members with vegetables”, he added.
Councillor Stan Shreeve, portfolio holder for finance, resources and assets at Nort East Lincolnshire Council, stated:
“I am really pleased the council has secured a lease with Gravity Red Inspires. This is a group that will help young people and their families”
“They provide great opportunities for young people in North East Lincolnshire to get involved in the community, offering a befriending service and independence to enjoy activities, while also giving much-needed respite to their families who care for them. I wish them all the best”, he added.
Cllr Daniel Westcott, ward councillor, said:
“All three ward councillors are delighted that the Floral Hall is set to reopen”
“After speaking with the new tenant, it is clear they are excited at the prospect, keen to engage with local residents and fully aware how important the venue is to People’s Park and the wider community”, he added.
“Along with the lodge being renovated and looking fantastic, the new look playground is really starting to take shape and all in time for events planned to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee”
“People’s Park has always been a focal point for local residents, as well as those from further afield and this should go a long way to ensure this remains the case”
