UK to announce visa changes for Ukrainian refugees following backlash

The UK is expected to announce changes to current visa rules for Ukrainian refugees fleeing the invasion from Russia.

So far, the government has resisted calls to drop all vias laws for those fleeing the conflict, citing safety concerns.

Ukraine’s UK ambassador has said that refugees must not face bureaucratic hurdles.

He added that most refugees are not safety concerns and that they do not have access to the necessary documents while fleeing the country.

Labour has repeatedly calle on the government to drop visa laws for those escaoing Ukraine so that the UK can take its ‘fair share.’

The European Union has waived its visas for all Ukrainian refugess for the next three years, with Poland taking in 1.3 million refugess so far.

More than 2 million people have fled the ongoing conflict so far, putting the Home Office under pressure and scrutiny for only processing 957 visas so far.

Speaking on BBC One’s Question Time, Ukrainian ambassador Vadym Prystaiko pointed out that most of those trying to get to the UK were women with children, as Ukrainian men were staying behind to fight.

“I hope they’re not posing any terrorist threat to the UK,” he said, adding: “I hope and beg the procedures will be dropped, every bureaucratic red tape should be cancelled.”

Mr Prystaiko also said the Ukrainian embassy in London could help the government to complete checks once people were in the country.
