Coastguard warns public to stay away from the coast
Cleethorpes Coastguard has asked members of the public to stay away from coastal areas and the beach as Storm Eunice batters the UK today.
HM Coastguard Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, Cleethorpes Tourist Information Centre, RNLI Cleethorpes
and Visit Cleethorpes are all issuing the same advice.
Coastal areas are expected to be worst hit by the storm, potentially posing a risk to life.
They have asked people ‘not to underestimate the power of nature’ and to not put other people’s licves in danger for the sake of a good picture.
Sharing their pleas to Facebook Cleethorpes Coastguard said: “Please stay away from the coast, do not underestimate the power of Mother Nature!!
“Do not put other people’s lives in danger when they need to come out to rescue you, just so you can see the waves crashing over the sea wall or to get a selfie!”
Earlier on this morning, the Humber Bridge announced that it would be closing to all traffic from 1:30 pm onwards due to the escalating situation.
Millions of people up and down the UK have been told to stay indoors as wind speeds could reach an eye-watering 110 mph in some areas.
Stay safe out there!
