Grimsby sell out tickets for Notts County clash
Grimsby Town have sold all home tickets for the time this season for Saturday’s promotion six-pointer against Notts County.
The Mariners currently sit top of the National League table and have been regularly selling over 6,000 tickets for home games.
Their away support has been equally as admirable, often selling most of the allocation and making long journeys in a league with over half of the clubs in the league being in the South.
This fantastic support has put Grimsby fourth in the attendance charts in the league, beaten only by Saturday’s opponents Notts County, Wrexham and Stockport County – all whose stadiums have a larger capacity than Blundell Park.
With the Magpies being similarly well followed, Blundell Park could be packed to the rafters on this Halloween weekend, with over 950 away tickets already sold.
The match itself is a chance for the Mariners to bounce back after a disappointing away defeat to Wealdstone on Tuesday, while Notts County will be hoping to continue their recent run of form against high-placed teams.
Their last two results have been a 2-1 win against Stockport and an unlucky 1-1 draw against Bromley, and their manager Ian Burchnall is hoping for an upset.
“I think we’ve stepped our performance level up against better teams.
“This is what it’s about if you want to be in the running for things we’ve got to go to Grimsby and put on a performance.”
Tuesday’s defeat left Town boss Paul Hurst “disappointed” as he began questioning whether he picked the right players, likening himself to the difficult task England manager Gareth Southgate has.
“I feel sometimes a bit like the England manager…you pick the players the public wants then something doesn’t work.”
Harry Clifton could be available again after missing the Wealdstone loss, as his absence was just cautionary, with Hurst explaining “he’s have played if it was the last game of the season”.
John McAtee is a big doubt ahead of the game, as Paul Hurst revealed to BBC Radio Humberside on Thursday that the forward is set to undergo a scan on an injured knee.
