Two prison officers assaulted by Doncaster inmate
On Wednesday 25 March 2020, two prison officers were assaulted by an inmate at HMP Doncaster.
Willesliel Taylor, 20, has received an extra nine-year sentence for his crimes.
He assaulted the two prison officers whilst they were delivering him his afternoon meal.
Once they opened his cell door, Taylor injured the officers using a makeshift blade and his fists.
The two officers and another colleague were stabbed, slashed and punched several times as they tried to restrain him.
One officer reportedly received a deep, four-inch cut to his neck whilst their colleague obtained several deep cuts and injuries to his head and face.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Jon White said: “Firstly, I would like to commend the bravery of the officers involved.
“If it wasn’t for their immediate actions, this could have easily been a murder investigation.
“It was a shocking attack on them and I’m pleased Taylor is facing the consequences.
“Nobody should go to work and experience this level of violence.
“Prison officers are there to offer support and security to inmates and we will not tolerate incidents such as this that put them at risk.”
Taylor was already serving a 10-year sentence for wounding, robbery and weapons-related offences.
He was sentenced to the extra nine years after pleading guilty to two counts of assault and the possession of a pointed article in prison.
The sentence was issued at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday 14 October of this year.
