Doncaster charity campaigns to provide activities for disabled youths
Doncaster Community Arts (darts) charity has launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to run Saturday Art Club sessions and activities for disabled youths.
It will provide disabled children and young people with the opportunity to make friends, develop new skills and become more confident in themselves.
The charity has been running creative activities for disabled youths for over 30 years.
One mother, Sharon, set up a blog called ‘all aboard!‘ for the campaign in order to help out her son, Ben.
The activities at The Point in Doncaster reportedly meant a lot to her son, which is why she is passionate about doing more for the community.
On her blog, Sharon wrote: “The world that you have created at The Point is fantastic.
“The opportunities that darts staff and artists have provided over the years has given us so much as a family.
“The Point is one of the most beneficial places with the most beneficial events I can think of.
“I can’t sing its praises highly enough!”
The more pledges the project receives, the more likely it is that their funding will be matched by Doncaster Council through The Doncaster Movement.
The charity, darts, wishes to provide free dance, music, sculpture making and drama sessions for children – no matter their ability or needs – at The Point which will be led by professional artists.
At least 20 weekly Art Club sessions for at least 50 disabled youths is their goal.
The staff are all trained in Makaton, which utilises signs, gestures, symbols and pictures.
It provides parents with a setting tailored to their children’s needs.
Over £500 has been raised for the campaign, but it is still a long way off their £9,355 target.
Just a couple of pounds would make a huge difference.
