The Government has announced that they will step up travel restrictions and all UK travel corridors will close from 4am on Monday. This means everyone entering the UK will have to self-isolate. Proof of a negative covid test will be required 72 hours prior. Flights to and from Portugal and South America are banned to protect the risk against unidentified strains.
More than 3.2 million have had the first vaccine in the UK but more is still needed to get the disease under control. Almost 45% of over-80s are now vaccinated and almost 40% of care home residents. ‘A lot of things have to go right before measures are relaxed’ Boris states. ‘The results of everyone’s actions will reduce the pressure on the NHS and reduce the number of deaths’ he says. Chris Whitty states ‘it is very likely that things will improve in the Spring’.

There were 4,134 new admissions to hospital on Thursday 14th and 1 in 3 people with Covid are asymptomatic. The peak is suppressed but it needs to be kept on top of in order to gain back control over this contagious virus. They expect hospitalisations and Covid deaths to increase over the next week so we must still stay vigilant.
