Over £40,000 spent on traveller site clean up: Council to seek injunction order

A proposal by Lincoln City Council and approved by Lincolnshire Police will see an official application for an injunction order on city-wide traveller camps early 2020.

This would mean that the authority would receive the legal power to move travellers from their sites.

Site such as Hartsholme Country Park, Skellingthorpe playing fields and South Common and Yarborough Leisure Centre have been occupied by travellers for years, and previous efforts by the Council to move the traveller camps on have been mostly unsuccessful. Council spend reports shows clean up bills for these sites has been over £40,000 in just a 3 year period.

Should the injunction be granted, the Council will have sufficient legal power to move the travellers and swiftly. Anyone refusing to leave can be arrested, and ultimately face imprisonment.
