What a lovely idea.
Kenneth Lee 88 is hoping to set up special chat benches in our area to help to battle loneliness. He has purchased eight signs that he hopes to place on benches around North East Lincolnshire.
The signs will show that they are chat benches, which means that anyone sitting on them is up for a friendly chat. Kenneth lost his wife 25 years ago and knows how lonely being on your own can be.
He has been inspired to set up the chat benches after hearing a story about a 90-year-old man sitting on a park bench for 40 minutes. When many people all too busy to say hello passed him by neither smiling or speaking to him.
A lady who was local to the area heard about it and then set up chat benches around her city which have spread to many countries across the world. Kenneth has purchased eight signs and is hoping the council or another organisation can help him find benches. Where he can set the signs up and bring hope and happiness to those who are alone.
He is hoping to set up the benches on. The North Promenade, St Peters Ave, Freeman Street, Peoples Park, Grimsby Town Centre, St James Square, and Victoria Street.
