Scientists are now saying that one drink a day increases your risk of a stroke. A study says that having one or two drinks a day makes your risk 15% higher than for those people who don’t drink.
Previously it was suggested that drinking in moderation could have a protective effect. But new research dismisses these claims.
Professor Sir Richard Peto from the University of Oxford said This is the first time we have had reliable evidence as to what is the cause and effect relationship.
The authors of the study believe the findings apply to men and women and to populations around the world.
The study busts the myth that drinking in moderation reduces your risk of having a stroke.
