A heartbroken dog owner has issued an important warning about a popular pet toy after the death of her beloved golden retriever.
The lady who breeds dog had bought several rope toy balls because she believed that they were extremely sturdy and impossible to destroy.
But within hours she found the dogs had left them “in pieces” so she had to throw them away, Despite her quick actions it was too late for one of the dogs who had ingested three feet of the rope. She sadly died two days later.
She wrote on Facebook The ball unraveled and tore several holes in her intestines as she tried to pass it. They removed 3 feet of rope that was entangled in her intestines.
The dog also had removed 14 inches of perforated intestines. But the damage from the rope was so extensive that she passed away two days later
She quickly became septic and bled from her intestines into her stomach. She said she wanted to warn everyone of how dangerous these toys are.
Linear objects pose more danger because they travel along the intestines causing more damage as they clinch the intestines into a tight ball.
According to an article posted by Germantown Veterinary Clinic ‘Ropes are the most dangerous objects your dog can swallow.
“These toys are extremely dangerous yet they are sold in common and reputable stores such as HomeGoods, Marshall’s, Petco, TKMax.”
Indira’s warning has been shared on Facebook more than 32,000 times and she has been inundated with messages.
One dog owner wrote: I bought a rope with a ball at home goods and it did not last for more than a day. I am so worried she swallowed some rope too.
Others were more critical.
One person said I am sorry for your loss it is very sad and must be devastating. But a lot of dog owners make this mistake.Never leave your dog to have free range unsupervised with any toy if you know your dog is a chewer.
